Lefkada with Kids: Boat Trips, Beaches and What to Skip

Updated October 22, 2026 · 6 min read

A wooden two-masted boat with blue awnings anchored in turquoise water, swimmers around it and a pine-covered shore behind

Lefkada works well with children if you pick one easy boat day, a beach with shallow water, and skip the long stairs. Not every booking page gives a minimum age, so the age limits below are only the ones that are written down. Where nothing is written, ask the operator before you pay.

Boat days: the length is the problem

Nine hours is a long day for a small child, and the Forgotten Islands cruise is the only one in our table whose page says it is suitable for all ages and mentions shade. For a first boat day with children, the shorter and smaller options are worth a look. The 7.5-hour marine wildlife cruise has snorkel gear in children’s sizes and, according to a reviewer, a toilet on board, but it carries a 15-person cap and excludes babies. The seven-hour daily cruise names two toilets and a free paddleboard, but turns away children under four and bans pushchairs. If you want to know how the long Kefalonia day works, see Nydri to Kefalonia, Ithaka and Porto Katsiki by boat, which is a nine-hour day.

Seasickness belongs to the pharmacy or your paediatrician before the trip. What helps without medicine is a morning departure, sitting in the middle of the boat and watching the horizon.

Beaches for children

These descriptions come from travel guides, not from us, and conditions change with wind and season.

  • Vasiliki: a long pebbly beach in a sheltered bay in the south, described as shallow and well suited to families. It is also a windsurfing centre, so look at the wind.
  • Agiofili: a shallow bay with calm water, reached on foot from Vasiliki or by boat from Vasiliki or Nydri. It is pebbly and fills up with tour boats later in the day.
  • Kathisma: on the west coast, about a kilometre of sand and pebbles with sunbeds, restaurants and bars. Parking can be hard in August.
  • Nydri: a pebbly-sandy beach with sunbeds and tavernas, easy to reach. It is the simplest choice for a day without a car.

What to skip with small children

The stairs. Porto Katsiki has a flight of steps down to the sand, which sources count at somewhere between 50 and 100. Egremni is worse: about a kilometre from the parking to the top of the stairs and roughly 400 steps down, with a limited number of umbrellas and one café with the only toilet. A pushchair will not manage 400 steps, and a tired child has to be carried back up. Our article on Porto Katsiki and Egremni has the details.

Also skip the long kayak tours until the child is old enough for the limits above, and the boat party.

A free walk

The Dimosari waterfall near Nydri costs nothing, and a travel blog describes the path as gentle and about twenty minutes to the end. The pool is described as ice-cold, so expect a short dip. See Dimosari waterfalls.

Our recommendation

Pick one boat day, not two. The Forgotten Islands cruise is the only one whose page welcomes all ages and mentions shade, but it takes nine hours, so it suits children who cope with a long day. For the others, start with a beach day at Nydri or Vasiliki and see how your children manage. More options are under island cruises from Nydri and things to do in Lefkada.
